Information: Dr. Alvin VanderGriend is currently Prayer Evangelism Associate for Harvest Prayer Ministries. In recent years Alvin directed HOPE Ministries—where he developed a Lighthouse strategy, created Lighthouse resources, and provided prayer-evangelism training—and served as the National Facilitator of Lighthouse Ministries for Mission America. Coming full circle Alvin will become re-involved with HOPE Ministries—a ministry that he turned over to Harvest Prayer Ministries in 2001.

Alvin was born and reared in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated from Calvin Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree and from Fuller Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree. After 40 years of ministry he and his wife, Carolyn, have returned to Washington and now make their home in Lynden. Two of their four children live with their families (this includes 5 grandchildren) in Washington State.

Though Alvin recently retired from Mission America he is not retiring from the prayer movement. Author of the new 40-day devotional Love to Pray, he is now offering Learning to Love to Pray seminars for believers, intercessors and prayer leaders across the nation. This seminar provides fundamentals to deepen prayer lives—a deepening that is necessary if they are to be successful at prayer-evangelism. He is also available to do Harvest Prayer Ministry seminars in the West and in other locations as the need may arise.

In addition to the book Love to Pray, Dr. VanderGriend has written other prayer evangelism books including Houses of Prayer Everywhere and Make Your Home a Light-House . He also co-authored the popular Praying Church Sourcebook. Alvin is currently a member of the Denominational Prayer Leader’s Network and America’s National Prayer Committee.
